Generative production tempts teams to skip this and generate their way to a film. It does not work, for the same reason it never worked on a shoot: without a list you discover in the edit that you have nine versions of one moment and nothing to cut to.
The list also sets the budget. Frames per shot, seconds per clip and a credit ceiling per asset all follow from it, which is how a project gets a number before it gets a render.
