Inpainting is the right tool for removing a boom, cleaning a plate or extending a surface. It is the wrong tool for fixing a face, and that distinction is worth holding firmly.
Patching a drifted likeness by inpainting produces a frame that passes on its own and a set that still fails, because the underlying identity was never corrected. The rule in our pipelines is blunt: a likeness failure regenerates from the identity sheet. It never gets patched.
When should you use inpainting?
For removals, cleanups and small environmental fixes. Not for faces, not for logos, and not for packaging type, all of which should return to their locked source instead.
